A New Cheer!

So I know we have all experienced CST testing these last few weeks. As I was trying to convince a 2nd/3rd grade split class to show the scratch work for math I had a bit of an epiphany with the help of a gifted 3rd grade boy.

You see he NEVER shows his scratch work and it is always like pulling teeth to get him to check his work and show it. So as I was talking to him I kept saying "when you do your math you make a note and you get your problems right" as I kept repeating it the boy said "it's like your singing a song!"

I thought about it... IT WAS! Here is what I came up with:

Do a little math
Make a little note
Get your problems right
Get your problems right

-sing it to the tune of :
Do a little dance
Make a little love
Get down tonight
Get down tonight

The students loved it! It became their little chant before CST math testing everyday. AND I noticed more students using the scratch paper during testing! I just wanted to share this with all of you so that you may continue to inspire.

FYI: I have not yet registered for summer class but will when my last student loan comes through.

Learning to Blog; Summer Class Update

Hey there! I have never done something like this before so I want to give it a try and make sure I know what I'm doing!

I'm am a little relieved the semester is over... It was really intense to be back in college when I thought that I might be done for a while after graduating last summer. I think we all know what that feeling is like, because we were all working on the research presentations for EED 610.

I am meeting with Dr. Burstien tomorrow to find out more about the summer class we have to take (and whether or not we have to take it, for those of you who took it previously) and I will update everyone through this blog. I have never used the college of extended learning to take a class before so I am not sure of how I go about enrolling. But I'll let you all know how that goes too.

What I have found out though is that once you register for classes for summer the tuition MUST be paid within 2 HOURS! For me this means that I need to have the $1,155 for it up front. So I am waiting on the last of my student loans and another paycheck to arrive before registering.

I don't think any of us really just have a thousand dollars laying around that we can throw towards tuition! Well Ladies, have a great day and I will update you after my meeting with Dr, Burstien.

One thing I learned at the Learning and the Brain Confernece
Dan Coyle's book, The Talent Code is an amazing account of the power of the brain to advance excellence through "Deep Practice." Want an illustration? Watch the Tiger Woods commercial and then click Dan Coyle's promo of this book. You will be profoundly affected in your perspective about today's curriculum and instruction. Enjoy!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to our cohort's blog! This is a place where we can share resources, ideas, thoughts, and feelings about our experiences in the educational world. I have already learned so much from all the wonderful (and some not-so-wonderful) experiences you have shared during class. Collaborative learning need not stop in the classroom, and I hope we can use this cyber-resources to support one another and do some good!
